The majority of people I know hate on this so much callin' Green Day 'emo, sellouts, shit' but this could actually be their best album, songs like Jesus Of Suburbia, Letterbomb, Homecoming, St.Jimmy, Whatsername fuckin' own.

Well I'll just agree with you ross, but I would place American idiot on the second place in my top list of Green Day albums. 21st Century Breakdown makes more sense to me and I really love it. I love it way more than I have loved any other album. But yes, Jesus of suburbia and Whatsername <3

American Idiot's quite similar to 21st CB. American Idiot's like Know Your Enemy, blunt, straight to the point and can get on your nerves if the video comes on Kerrang! all the time. Give Me Novacaine's like Restless Heart Syndrome, kinda med-themed but with the soft verses and heavier choruses/middle eights. Boulevard of Broken Dreams is AI's 21 Guns, St. Jimmy's Christian's Inferno and kinda East Jesus Nowhere. The Viva la Gloria's and Last of the American Girls are like She's A Rebel/Whatsername/Extraordinary Girl. Letterbomb's almost Murder City...

Obviously not all of them work like that, but that's just me. I think AI's a really really amazing album, I just wish people would stop doing what they do. I told my art teacher I didn't like the Pet Shop Boys and the other art teacher in the room said "Oh no, it's just Green Day you like" and started taking the piss (mybad) out of American Idiot.

GODDAMNIT, GET A LIFE!!...and some respect for kickass bands...

I can see where Peacemaker is coming from with drawing the comparisons and similarities of songs between American Idiot and 21CB, its very interesting. Unlike some Green Day fans won't admit and claim that they're been fans since they were 5, American Idiot was my first album, and what an introduction; amazing, bold, provocative, perfect, it captured me from the first play through and because of 21CB and all the other albums I love, I tend to neglect this album way too much. I got an urge to listen to St. Jimmy earlier and I was just like "Shit, this song is awesome." Like ross said, the hate around this album is stupid, people are just not accepting of change, and thats their problem.

American Idiot Empty Re: American Idiot

Post by Shell Fri Aug 07, 2009 11:56 pm

I remember the first time I listened to American Idiot all the way through, I'd brought it on my way home from work and dashed home to listen to it. I'd stayed away from alot of the reviews because I wanted to be suprised, and boy, was I! I didn't know what to expect from Jesus Of Suburbia and Homecoming after hearing that they were 9 minutes long etc. but I got completly swept away with them. Are We The Waiting and St. Jimmy were incredible, I just wanted to shout along with them. I loved the contrast in Billie's voice in Give Me Novacaine. Wake Me Up When Semptember Ends... I just sat there with my mouth open, tears rolling down my face. It was so beautiful but so sad. When it had finished I had to pause the c.d and compose myself. I still get teary eyed when I listen to it, especially the live BIAB version. And Whatsername, what a perfect little song to end on.

At this point in time, for me, American Idiot is an album that I pick up every now and again, but I don't really listen to all that often. It's not my favourite album but it is a damn good one.

I have no problem with American Idiot
Even if ive been a fan for 15 years now, And its not in my Green Day albums.
I think its great that they tryd a different thing, its how humans grows
When American Idiot came out i was sad cause i couldnt get it when it got released
so i was talking to 2 friends
We talkt about the album and how much i wanted it when it got released
and so we joked around that one of them was going to get it for me the day after and how awesome that would be
and they calld me the next day and told me to come out
and so i did
and they DID buy the album
and i was like : @_@ YOUR ASS HOLE!! WE WERE JUST KIDING AROUND
and he said: well... i wanted too
i was having a crush on that guy too.. but he never found out x)
i wonder what he is doing these days ... meh what ever
so thats the story of how i got American Idiot

And as a hardcore fan im suporting them through everything.
Even if American Idiot isnt on my top list
It is very awesome i mean lots of songs blows me away
and i can listen to it now and then
..

I'm in such an American Idiot mood at the moment...I go through phases with some albums where it's all I can listen to for a week or two, then I can't stand to hear it in full for a while.

It's so easy with mp3s to just put them on a random playlist and listen to them like that, but it's just not the same! Every now and again, I have to listen to albums on cd, just so I'm not as tempted to skip songs. I fell in love with Letterbomb all over again because I listened to it on cd, i'd skip it on iTunes becasue it wasn't a favourite of mine at the time.

I only listen through the entire albums at once^^ Never single songs from them or so, nor do I ever fast forward over a song.. ok it happens every now and then with Know your Enemy and Viva la Gloria! But mostly not.
